The painter's residence in Laos

About

About

Jean-Marc Huss

SINCE MOVING TO SOUTH-EAST ASIA THREE DECADES AGO, GLOBE TROTTING
ARTIST JEAN-MARC HUSS CREATES PAINTINGS THAT ARE A VISUAL FEAST,
AN AESTHETIC TRIUMPH THAT HAS IMPRINTED ON THESE GIANT ORIENTAL FACES
THE MAGNETIC CALM OF ANOTHER WORLD THAN OURS.

A SPLENDID ICONIC JOURNEY INTO THE SPIRITUAL ELEGANCE OF EASTERN LORDS,
SHAMANS AND HOLY VAGABONDS THAT JEAN-MARC CALLS THE "MASTERS OF BLISS".

JEAN-MARC'S WORKS ARE HELD IN PUBLIC AND PRIVATE COLLECTIONS WORLDWIDE,
AND ARE REGULARLY AUCTIONED AT PRESTIGIOUS EVENTS IN AID OF CHARITIES, LIKE
THE RED CROSS FOUNDATION, THE PRINCE'S TRUST AND THE DALAI LAMA FOUNDATION.

RESIDING NOW IN NORTHERN LAOS, BETWEEN MONSOON RETREATS AND JOURNEYS
TO LAST FRONTIERS, THE PAINTER CONTINUES TO CELEBRATE, THROUGH THE SANDS
OF TIME AND THE SEAS OF CHANGE, THE OMNIPRESENCE OF THE SACRED ON HIS
MAJESTIC CANVASES, IN AN IMPECCABLE MASTERY OF LIGHT AND SHADE.

Brushstrokes with the power of a prayer, smeared into perfection.
When painting becomes an Ode to Immensity.

SELDOM HAS BLISS BEEN PAINTED WITH SUCH  FOND FAMILIARITY, WITH PEACE OF MIND ALMOST WOVEN INTO THE FABRIC OF THESE CANVASES.
CALM ABIDING STROKES, CRISP AND CLEAR, THE BRUSH STROKES SHED LIGHT ON DARK MATTERS. HERE COMES THE SUN.

Stillness in motion : painting what is, to show the power of what is not.

One thousand years ago, sculptors of the khmer empire
Believed that god had put a statue in every slab of stone,
And their duty was to remove all that was not part of it.

They gave us carved faces that verge on the sublime:
Will of iron and force of character on one hand,
Profound faith and inner peace on the other.

These icons have the touching beauty of a human face,
And because they were done out of space and out of time,
They still, even today, dominate the one and defy the other.

Jean-marc, when painting these kings of a unknown reign,
Displays a fond familiarity with the intangible, in a ravishing
Palette  of stupefying textures and rare pigments.

Holy Chic, Courtly Oriental, this is Bliss Grand Cru.
